Now, unless you’ve been under a tempurung somewhere the past week, I’m sure you have all heard of the devastation in Myanmar caused by last weekend’s Cyclone Nargis. In summary, at least 40,000 people have died so far with another 60,000 missing and millions displaced/homeless. Short of being there physically to lend a hand, the least we could do is give a donation.

The most obvious channel you can donate to is via the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) who is appealing for cash donations from the public to aid in their efforts and the efforts of the Myanmar Red Cross Society to help the victims. MRC’s appeal and other relevant information can be found at their website. Here is how you can donate:
The MRC seek all form of assistance, especially monetary to enable the MRC in providing humanitarian aid to alleviate the sufferings of victims of the cyclone. Cheques should be made payable to the MRCS International Relief Fund and marked “Myanmar Cyclone Nargis” on the back of the cheque or bank-in into MRCS Account Maybank No – 5144 - 2210 – 2657. Cash donations made to the MRCS are tax-exempted.
Alternatively, you may donate via Mercy Malaysia or the government’s Tabung Bencana Kementerian Luar Negeri.
