Penang Thaipusam 2009

Today I ventured out to take a peek at the Thaipusam celebrations happening nearby. The walk from my apartment took about 15 minutes or so. Why didn’t I drive? Well… the main road outside my apartment leading to the festival was absolutely backed up as far as the eyes could see!

The atmosphere at the festival/main procession route was great. Loud indian music, bhangra even indian hip hop were blasting from the massive speakers at the many thaneer phantals (make-shift refreshment stalls) which had been setup by various companies and organisations in Penang. The aroma of delicious indian food filled the air at every street corner where free food and drinks were distributed to the public. Among the interesting things I saw, and Eu-Jeen, I know you’d be happy to hear this, was a Liverpool Football Club kavadi!!! :D Penang DAP also had a big refreshment stall set up along the procession route.
