• Allocate up to 2 hours or more for delays
• Know the total journey duration is actually A LOT longer
• If traveling long distance or overnight, take the berths
• Actually, just take the berths!
• Bring your own food & drinks
• Use the toilet at the station before getting on the train
I have not taken the KTM train for many, many years and now I remember why… For the fun of it, Kim and I thought we’d take the overnight train down to KL last Friday to attend Charlene’s wedding dinner. It was suppose to depart at 9:45pm, we finally left Butterworth at around 11:30pm! If based on original schedule, we were suppose to arrive in KL Sentral at 6am; at 6am, we’ve only reached the Ipoh station! The toilets stank… etc etc etc. Niamah!!! Luckily, the berths were comfortable enough to actually get some sleep in! Sigh…
We took the NICE supercoach for the trip back to Penang. It’s about the same price as the KTM berths but in contrast, the bus is on-time, takes only 5 hours, has very comfortable seats, movies are shown and sandwiches/coffee are served. What a difference!!!
